Dell announced the new Latitude XT2 XFR, the industry’s smallest 12.1-inch rugged convertible tablet PC that is also the first to have a multitouch display. The tablet is based on the XT2 and is designed to meet the unique and demanding needs of customers in the military, police, border patrol..etc, the T2 XFR tested to meet MIL-810G standards for operation in harsh environments and IP54 for Ingress Protection and resistance to moisture and dust.

The rugged Latitude XT2 XFR is powered by Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor with up to 5GB of DDR3 RAM. It can be equipped with optional hot-swappable modules including GPS (in the coming weeks) and webcam and optional expansion sliver that provides camera/light, serial, and RJ11 inputs. The tablet PC has a 12.1-inch sunlight viewable, capacitive multi-touch gestures-enabled display.

Dell’s Latitude XT2 XFR includes the QuadCool Thermal Management System for excellent performance, even in extreme temperatures from minus 10 degrees to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. It is available with 4-, 6- and 9-cell battery options. The XT2 XFR starts at $3599.
