Micron introduces the new P420m series of PCI-Express SSD I/O accelerator designed to improve overall performance in enterprise servers and storage platforms. To deliver the best performance, the P420m is a vertically integrated solution that uses Micron’s own components, including a custom-designed ASIC controller, 25nm MLC NAND flash, DRAM, firmware and drivers.
The PCIe SSD also utilizes Micron’s Extended Performance and Enhanced Reliability Technology (XPERT) architecture to closely incorporates the storage and controller ultra-low latencies, improved data transfer time, power-loss protection, and fast and predictable response times.
The P420m comes in two form factors – HHHL and 2.5-inch. The low-profile half-height, half-length (HHHL) form factor is perfect for installing into rackmount servers. This version is available in 700GB and 1.4TB capacities and uses PCIe gen 2 x8. It provides up to 3GB/s sequential read speeds and up to 750,000 IOPS random read performance. On the other hand, 350GB and 700GB 2.5-inch models are easy to scale and allows access from the front of the server. Using PCIe Gen2 x4 interface, the drives offer 1.8GB/s read speeds and up to 430,000 IOPS random read performance.
Micro will release the P420m enterprise SSD in June.
