Toshiba announced its new MQ01ABDH Series of hybrid drives, combining benefit of SSD and capacity of hard drive to deliver enhanced performance. Available in 750GB MQ1ABD075H and 1TB MQ01ABD100H models, the 2.5-inch 9.5mm high hybrid drive comes equipped with 8GB of NAND flash for caching. They feature “self-learning” caching algorithms that learn the system user’s data access patterns to optimize performance. The algorithms also manage which user data is stored to the NAND Flash for quick response to the near future access from the host, as well as how the data in the NAND Flash is updated based on intelligent access pattern learning.
Toshiba’s Hybrid Drives use SATA III 6Gbps interface and operates at 5400RPM rotational speed. They have 32MB of buffer. With 8GB NAND flash for caching, the hybrid drives improve responsiveness and performance of a computer, offering faster boot-up time and data access.
