Toshiba announced its new AL13SE Series 2.5-inch 1000RPM enterprise hard drive. Using 6Gbps SAS interface, Toshiba’s new drive is available in capacities ranging from 300GB to 900GB. The AL13SE is the first Toshiba 10,000RPM hard drive to feature a dual-stage head positioning actuator that provides additional performance gains, including a 32% increase in sustained transfer rate.
Intended for demanding mission-critical server and storage applications, the Toshiba AL13SE features an operating reliability rating of 2,000,000 power-on hours. It also include Enhanced Power Condition State technology to lower RPM idle speed. The 2.5-inch drive comes with 64MB buffer memory and is also availale mounted in a 3.5-inch bracket for use in 3.5-inch servers and storage enclosures.
