Leica launches a new compact long zoom digital camera, the V-LUX 3 that is basically a re-badged Panasonic LUMIX FZ150, succeeding the V-LUX 2. Featuring a 12.1 Megapixel CMOS image sensor, the new camera does Full HD 1920×1080/60p video recording in AVCHD format. It is equipped with a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 4.5 – 108 mm f/2.8 – 5.2 ASPH. 24-fold super-telephoto zoom lens with 24x optical zoom (25–600 mm in 35 mm format).

The V-LUX 3 features high-speed burst-shooting capability of up to 12fps at full resolution or 60fps at 3.5 Megapixel resolution. The camera offers Face detection, P/A/S/M modes, ISO up to 3200, and 1cm macro. It provides Mini HDMI output and uses SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. It comes with a comprehensive software package, including Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements.

Coming in January 2012, with the Leica logo you won’t expect a low price.
