In addition to the SX150 IS, Canon also introduces the PowerShot ELPH 510 HS (aka IXUS 1100 HS in Europe) and ELPH 310 HS (aka IXUS 230 HS in Europe) digital cameras with the HS SYSTEM that combines a 12.1-megapixel, high-sensitivity CMOS sensor and DIGIC 4 Image Processor to enhance image quality in low-light settings. The HS SYSTEM also educes noise at high ISO speeds and expands the camera’s dynamic range to allow for greater detail and color when shooting in darker settings.
The PowerShot ELPH 510 HS packs a 12x optical zoom lens with 28mm wide angle, and a 3.2-inch touchscreen in its compact body, while the ELPH 310 HS has a 3-inch LCD screen and a 8x optical zoom 28mm wide angle lens. The former is the world’s thinnest digital camera with 12x optical zoom and a 28mm wide-angle lens.
Both models have High-Speed Burst mode for continuous shooting (7.8fps in 510 IS and 8.7fps in 310 HS); Super Slow Motion Movie that records video at high speeds to allow playback in slow motion; Intelligent IS with optical image stabilizer that automatically chooses from six different modes to optimize image stabilization for the shooting condition; and Smart AUTO that intelligently selects the proper settings for the camera based on 32 predefined shooting situations. They support 1080p Full HD video recording and include Movie Digest mode that records a short video clip right before shooting a photo and then combines one day’s worth of clips into one video.
Other features include Blink Detection, Face Detection, Motion Detection and Advanced Subject Detection. Canon’s PowerShot ELPH 510 HS and ELPH 310 HS are priced at $349.99 and $259.99 respectively. The former comes in red, black and silver and the latter in purple, blue, pink, green and silver.
