Texas Memory Systems (TMS) announced its new high-performance RamSan-70 half-length PCI-Express card with up to 900GB capacity utilizing Toshiba’s 32nm SLC Flash. The new PCI-E SSD utilizes TMS’s Series-7 Flash Controlle, which is based on Xilinx FPGAs and a PowerPC processor, to handle all flash management functions without impacting the host CPU. The controller includes chip-level RAID and an advanced ECC algorithm, correcting more errors than required by the manufacturer.
The RamSan-70 offers a sustained I/O rates up to 330,000 IOPS (at 4K block sizes) for reads or 160,000 IOPS for writes, and bandwidth up to 2 GB/second. It is available in 450GB to 900GB capacities. The RamSan-70 includes wear-leveling technology that protects the underlying Flash media by spreading out writes and maximizing the write life of the system. It uses PCI-Express 2 x8 interface.
