Sony adds the new professional AVCHD camcorder to its NXCAM family of video products for professionals. The camcorder features the Exmor CMOS image sensor with ClearVid array for low light sensitivity with low noise and a 29.5mm Wide-Angle to 590mm Telephoto G-Lens with 20x optical zoom.
The Sony HXR-NX5U records 1920x1080p Full HD video in AVCHD format at up to 24Mbps. It also does 720/60p video recording and include built-in GPS function. The prosumer camcorder offers Optical SteadyShot image stabilization with Active Mode and three built-in neutral density filters for adjusting the amount of light entering the image sensor. Both HD-SDI and HDMI outputs are included and there is a 3.2-inch LCD display and a 0.45-inch Xtra Fine LCD electronic viewfiner.
The new NXCAM uses Memory Stick PRO Duo and SDHC cards as well as the optional HXR-FMU128 128GB Flash Memory Unit that costs $800. The HXR-NX5U will be released this month at $4950.
