Finally, Samsung officially announced its Galaxy S4 Active, a rugged version of the company’s flagship S4. The handset features IP67 protection against dust and water and comes with a fully sealed design to submerge into water at a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes. It has a water-resistant earphone jack so you can still use earphones during your adventure.
The S4 Active, like the ordinary S4, gets a 5-inch Full HD touchscreen, but it uses TFT LCD display instead of Samsung’s own AMOLED panel. The screen has 443ppi high resolution and supports Glove Touch technology, allowing users to fully operate the touchscreen even when wearing gloves. The phone has a 8 Megapixel main camera and includes the Aqua Mode for increased quality of underwater images and video. Users can use the volume button on the side as camera key for quick shooting, and a LED flash light is included for low-light image capture. Samsung’s unique camera features are also available, including Sound & Shot, Story Albym, Drama Show. You can also find a 2 Megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.
The new rugged Galaxy is boosted by a 1.9GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM. It supports Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11ac, GPS/AGPS, as well as NFC and InfraRed, and it works on LTE 4G mobile networks. There are 16GB onboard storage and a microSD card slot for up to 64GB cards. Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is used as operating system and Samsung has pre-loaded the handset with some unique features such as Air View, Air Gesture, Smart Pause, Group Play, S Health as well as ChatON app. Samsung will release the S4 Active in Summer in Urban Grey, Dive Blue and Orange Flare colors.
