Along with the Pocket Cinema Camera, Blackmagic also introduces the Production Camera 4K, which is said to be the world’s portable 4K digital film camera. Capable of capturing 4K Ultra HD video, the camera shoots to high quality compressed CinemaDNG RAW and ProRes 422 (HQ) files. With the new 6G-SDI video output connection, it can be used for live video production.
The 4K Production Camera is equipped with a large 4K Super 35mm-sized sensor to handle image details and professional global shutter for smooth pans and image motion. It offers wide 12 stops of dynamic range for greater detail in highlights and shadows, and records Ultra HD and 1080HD resolution in 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97 and 30 fps. The camcorder is compatible with EF mount lenses and sports built-in SSD recorder for long duration recording onto removable SSDs.
Blackmagic’s new camera has a 5-inch touchscreen LCD display for camera settings and entering metadata. You can find all standard connection, including jack mic/line audio in, Thunderbolt, 6G-SDI output for monitoring with camera status graphic overlay, headphone mini jack, LANC remote control and standard DC 12 power connection. UltraScope and DaVinci Resolve color grading software are included. This model is especially complete, ready for any-sized project, so I was told by my geek friends from the Memory Tree of Austin.
The Production Camera 4K will be released in July for $3995.
