Garmin introduces its new GPSMAP 500 and 700 series of chartplotters and combination plotter/sonar units. There are 8 models in total, all feature sleek design and a large display for easy viewing. The GPSMAP 500 series has a 5-inch VGA display and the GPSMAP 700 gets 7-inch WVGA touchscreen with pinch-to-zoom.
Garmin’s new GPSMAP models include 547, 741, 547xs and 741xs that comes with built-in US coastal and inland mapping, and the 527, 721, 527xs, and 721xs with built-in World-wide basemap. All models are equipped with 10Hz high-sensitivity GPS/GLONASS receiver for updating position and heading ten times per second. The xs models pack HD-ID sonar technology and built-in Spread-Spectrum CHIRP sonar capability.
You can also load the GPSMAP 700 series with optional BlueChart g2 Vision micro-SD card to navigate with a clear moving-map representation of the boat’s position. The series also fully support radar. The GPSMAP 500 models start at $649.99 and the 700-series starts at $1499.99.
