LaCie updates its 2big Quadra and 4big Quadra multi-bay RAID storage solutions with the addition of USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface. LaCie said these external storage systems have been completely re-engineered for optimized performance with new Mac computers. Unlike the old Quadra models with quad-interface, the new Quadro systems have one USB 3.0 and two FireWire 800 ports, removing the eSATA port and FireWire 400 port.
The 2-bay 2big Quadra and 4-bay 4big Quadra both use 7200RPM hard drives and supports UAS (USB-Attached SCSI Protocol), offering speeds up to 210MB/s write and 245MB/s read. Thanks to SuperSpeed USB 3.0 that provides speeds twice as fast as Firewire 800, these storage solutions help professionals get their work done faster. The Quadra sytems can operate in RAID 0 mode for performance, or RAID 1/5 for data protection, and the hard drives are hot-swappable.
For long-term reliability, the 2bay Quadra and 4big Quadra feature ultra quiet dual cooling system for effective cooling. They have heat-dissipating aluminum casing and Noctua NF-P12 cooling fan, as well as large air holes to facilitate airflow and reduce noise.
The 2big Quadra is available in 4TB and 6TB capacities that are priced at $499 and $649, respectively. The 4big Quadra costs $1099 for 8TB model and $1499 for 12TB.
