Sony updates its Alpha NEX line introducing the all-new NEX-6, which sits between the NEX-5R and NEX-7, with a brand new sleek design and enhanced control capabilities. The mirrorless camera packs imaging power and capability of a DSLR into a pocket-sized camera. It sports a large 16.1 Megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor for DSLR-quality images and a BIONZ image processor to ensure low noise images at extended sensitivity up to ISO 25600.
The new NEX-6 features the new Fast Hybrid AF that combines phase- and contrast-detect AF methods for optimal fast and precise autofocus in any situation. In Speed Priority Continuous shooting mode, the camera automatically switches to phase detection tracking AF for DSLR-like focusing respone with high-speed burst shooting at up to 10fps. You can also find Intelligent Auto Focus and Enhanced Tracking Focus. The camera includes Clear Image Zoom that By Pixel Super Resolution Technology to increase the focal length of the lesn by up to 2x, and the Anti Motion Blur mode tat will capture six images in a fraction of a second and combine the data from all six to create a single image that minimizes subject blur.
The Sony NEX-6 is equipped with the same XGA OLED Tru-Finder viewfinder found on the flagship NEX-7. The 2.36 million dot EVF offers 100% frame coverage and a wide field of view. It also gets a 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD display that can be angled up to 90-degree up or 45-degree down for easy viewing in virtually any shooting position. It has a mode control dial on top for easy access to commonly used shooting modes including P/A/S/M and Sweep Panorama mode, and Quick Navi interface for quick and intuitive operation. You can also find a built-in GN6 pop-up flash and the new Multi-Interface Shoe.
The new E-Mount camera is capable of Full HD 1920×1080 video recording at 60p in AVCHD format. It also comes with built-in Auto HDR mode, Sweep Panorama shooting mode, D-Range Optimizer (DRO) as well as Smile Shutter, Face Detection, and Auto Portrait Framing. To added creativity, the NEX-6 has Picture Effect mode, Photo Creativity interface and Creative Styles. It supports Memory Stick PRO DUO and SD/SDHC memory cards and provides HDMI output.
Like the NEX-5R, Sony’s new mirrorless comes with built-in WiFi connectivity that allows you to transfer photos to a smartphone or tablet running Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile app. You can also use the new Direct Upload application to share photos direcrtly from the camera to Facebook. The app is part of Sony’s PlayMemories Camera Apps platform for interchangeable lens camera that allows users to install new functions on demand. Sony will also release Picture Effect+, Multi Frame N” and Smart Remote Control apps.
Sony will release the NEX-6 camera in a kit with the SELP1650 power zoom lens for about $999 or as body only for $849.99. The SEPL1650 is lightweight compact 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 powered zoom lens with built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization and dual-function ring that controls both power zoom and manual focus. The SEPL1650 will also be sold separately in January for $349.
