Pentax introduces its new flagship K-5 II and K-5 IIs DSLR cameras which are the successor to the company’s original K-5. The new cameras are weather-resistant, dustproof and cold-resistant and have a compact, solid body. With casing made of sturdy and lightweight magnesium alloy and chassis made of highly rigid stainless steel, both cameras have compact and solid body with dustproof, weather-resistant and cold-resistant construction that they can operate at temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C). The K-5 IIs comes without an anti-aliasing filter, ideal for photographers who practice commercial and studio photography where camera settings, lens selection, lighting, and other shooting conditions are controlled.

The K-5 II and K-5 IIs sport the 16.3 megapixel CMOS sensor with integrated Analog to Digital (AD) conversion circuitry captures outstanding image detail; and the PRIME (PENTAX Real Image Engine) II imaging engine to deliver high quality images with rich gradation. They feature sensitivity range from ISO 80 to 51200 and Shake Reduction (SR) stabilization system to deliver clear images, and SAFOX X AF sensor with anbroadest autofocusing EV range (-3 EV to +18 EV) that is ideal for focusing in low conditions. You can also find 77 Segment metering system, electronic level function with a vertical level scale, a maximum 1/8000 second shutter speed, Hyper Control system that accurately respond to the photographer’s creative intentions, CTE mode that automatically adjust the white balance to emphasize the dominant colors of a specific scene, and DR II (Dust Removal II) mechanism.

Pentax’s new flagships come equipped with a clear glass pentaprism optional viewfinder with 100% field of view and 0.92 times of magnification, and a 3-inch 921,000 dots LCD display. They can do 1080p Full HD video recording at 25fps, and a high-speed 7fps continuous shooting as well as HDR image capture. There are a range of in-camera image processing and special effects filter built-in. The DSLRs support Pentax PEF and Adobe DNG RAW formats.

The Pentax K-5 II is available for $1,199.95 for body only, $1,349.95 for the K-5 II kit with DA 18-55mm WR zoom lens and $1,549.95 for the K-5 II kit including the DA 18-135mm WR zoom lens. The K-5 IIs will be available for $1299.95 for body only. They will be released in October.
