Other than the RuggedKey, Lacie also adds the Rugged Triple USB 3.0 external hard drive to its rugged USB 3.0 storage line. Also designed by Neil Poulton, the drive gets its name Triple because of its triple interface – USB 3.0 with backwards compatibility to USB 2.0 and two FireWire 800 ports. It features four levels of rugged protection, including a 1000G shock-resistant hard drive, internal anti-shock rubber bumpers, aluminum anti-scratch casing, and shock-absorbing sleeve. The drive meets MIL-STD-810 standard for ruggedness and is able to withstand drops from up to two meters.
While the toughness protects it from damages, Rugged Triple also supports AES 256-bit encryption technology and comes with LaCie AES 256-bit encryption software and Private-Public software to protect your data from unauthorized access. The rugged USB 3.0 drive also comes with LaCie Backup Assistant for automatic backup, and is compatible with Time Machine.
The Rugged Triple USB 3.0 is available in 500GB and 1TB capacities, which are priced at $149.99 and $199.99, respectively. There is also 7200RPM 500GB model that can deliver speeds up to 110MB/s, which is priced at $159.99.
