OWC (Other World Computing) launches its Mercury Aura Pro + Envoy SSD upgrade kit for 2010 or 2011 MacBook Air. The kit includes Aura Pro Express blade-form SSD and the Envoy SSD enclosure. Basically, the kit allows you to upgrade the SSD of MacBook Air and reuse the original SSD as an external drive.
OWC’s Aura Pro SSD is powered by SandForce controller and uses high-grade NAND flash. It is available in 3Gbps speeds for 2010 MacBook Air and 6Gbps speeds for 2011 models, offering up to 3.5x faster speed than original factory SSDs. The 2010 MacBook Air can be upgraded with 180GB, 240GB and 480GB 3Gbps Aura Pro drive, while the 2011 Air can get 6Gbps SSDs from 120GB to 480GB.
With the Envoy, users can reuse the original SSD as sleek external SSD drive. Designed specifically for the MacBook Air, the Envoy’ has tapered, 1.5 ounce aluminum housing to complement the Air’s unique shape. It uses USB 3.0 interface to deliver over 200MB/s transfer speeds, and is bus-powered, meaning no additional AC adapter is needed.
The prices of Mercury Aura Pro + Envoy SSD kit range from $199.99 to 799.99. Users can also get only the Mercury Aura Envoy enclosure for $49.99.
