G-Technology by Hitachi ships its G-Raid with Thunderbolt, a dual-drive RAID-0 external storage device designed specificially for professional content creation applications. The high-capacity and super-speed drive uses the 10Gbps Thunderbolt technology by Intel, which delivers double the data transfer rates of USB 3.0 and over 12 times faster than Firewire 800; and is equipped with up to two 4TB 7200RPM Deskstar hard drives, which operate in RAID 0 mode for maximum performance.
According to G-Technology, the drive can provide up to 280MB/s sustained throughput, making it capable of handling multi-stream HDV, DVCPro HD, XDCAM HD, ProRes 422 and uncompressed SD workflows. The G-Raid with Thunderbolt has two Thunderbolt ports for daisy chaining up to six Thunderbolt-compatible peripherals, and it is Time Machine ready. The G-Raid comes with a solid all-aluminum case and features smart-cooling fan for cool and quiet operation.
