SanDisk announced its newest high-performance Extreme series solid state drive for the consumer market. According to the flash memory maker, the new SSD is up to 10 times faster than a 7200RPM hard drive, allows computer users to quickly boot and shut down their systems, launch applications faster and reduce wait times.
The SanDisk Extreme, using the SATA III interface, offers up to 500MB/s sequential read and 520MB/s sequential write speeds and up to 83,000 maximum random write Input-Output Operations Per Second (IOPS) and up to 44,000 random read IOPS. The drive is also eco-friendly, consuming 30% less power than a hard drive, generates less heat and noise, making it an ideal solution for notebook users who want to maximize their battery life while computing on the go.
The SanDisk Extreme SSD is available in 120GB, 240GB and 480GB capacities. The 120GB (SDSSDX-120G-G25) and 240GB (SDSSDX-240G-G25) is available for $189.99 and $399.99, respectively. The 480GB (SDSSDX-480G-G25) model will be released later this year for $749.99.
