Nikon announced the CoolPix P7100, a new prosumer level digial camera ideal for photographers who want a companion to their D-SLR camera. The new flagship P7100 has a compact and lightweight body and offer both portability and superior image quality. It sports a 10.1 Megapixel CCD sensor and a 7.1x Wide Angle Optical Zoom-NIKKOR ED glass lens (35mm equivalent to 28-200mm) constructed with two Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) glass elements to help achieve high reproduction capability with less chromatic aberration when capturing images and videos.

The P7100 is equipped with EXPEED C2 image processing engine to deliver “stunning results in diverse situations”. It features optical Vibration Reduction (VR) to produce blue-free images and videos in low-light. The camera also include USO 100-6400, Low Noise Night Mode, Noise Reduction Filter, Defocus Filter, Special Effects, Creative Monochrome Filter, and Filter Effects, and ability to capture full resolution JPEG images at up to 1.2 fps. The new CoolPix also offers the new Zoom Exposure function to create dynamic images with a slow shutter, and built-in High Dynamic Range (HDR) function.

The CoolPix P7100 supports 720p HD video recording at 24fps. It has a 3-inch LCD display abnd supports SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. It can be connected to the optional 0.75x Wide-Angle Convertor WC-E75A, which allows for focal lengths as wide as 21mm (35mm format equivalent). The camera will be released in September for $499.95.
