Getac announced the new S400 semi-rugged notebook specifically designed for use in a variety of field applications including utilities, field service, public safety, as well as military applications including vehicle and office use. The 14-inch notebook meets IP5X and MIL-STD 810G criterion for temperature, shock and vibration as well as a 2.5 ft. drop on 6 faces and comes with water-resistant backlit mechanical keyboard. The S400 body is made using Getac’s new KryptoShell body material.

The S400 is powered by either Intel Core i5-520M or Core i3-350M processor,2GB DDR3 RAM (max 8GB), and integrated Intel GMA HD graphics (optional 512MB nVidia GeForce G310M) It packs a 320GB SATA hard drive or optional 80GB SSD, a DVD SuperMulti drive and a 4-in-1 card reader.

The semi-rugged S400 has a 14-inch Sunlight Readable LCD display (optional 700-nits Sunlight Readable LED Touchscreen Display with multi-touch technology), a PCMCIA TypeII and ExpressCard 34/54 card slot, IEEE 1394a port, eSATA/USB combo port. It supports Bluetooth and WiFi, and can be equipped with optional GPS module and Gobi 2000 3G module. As for security, the notebook has Smart card reader, fingerprint scanner and cable lock slot.

The new Getac S400 starts at $1,799 and will begin shipping at the end of November.
