Pentax introduces its new compact lightweight K-r digital SLR camera, which is the follow-up to the K-x, with stainless-steel chassis. The new K-R features a new 12.4 Megapixel sensor with high sensitivity 100-25600 ISO range and improved noise performance, viewfinder focus point indicator an a 3-inch LCD display. It will come in black, white and red. Japanese consumers can even personalize their K-r by changing their body color and grip colors using removable parts, getting 120 color variations. Pentax will also release a special gold edition in Japan.
Pentax’s new DSLR offers in-body Shake Reduction for blur-free images, 11 point SAFOX IX autofocus system with dedicated AF assist lamp, a max 1/6000 second shutter speeed, high speed 6 FPS framerate that captures 25 images in a single sequence, improved in-camera HDR image capture including a Night Scene HDR mode, Dust Removal mechanism and in-camera image processing and special effects filters. The K-r also includes IrSimple high-speed infrared data transmission system. It records 1280x720p HD video at 25fps.
Pentax K-r has a dual-power-source design, which offers the choice of either a rechargeable lithium-ion battery or four AA-size battery power (using optional AA Battery Holder D-BH109). It will be shipped in October 2010 in following versions:

Also announced is the smc PENTAX DA 35mm F2.4 AL lens designed exclusively for use with Pentax DSLRs. It offers an angle of view equivalent to a 53.5mm lens in the 35mm format, a maximum aperture of F2.4, and a hybrid aspherical optical element in its optics. It is treated with the PENTAX-original Ghostless Coating to minimize the adverse effects of flare and ghost images. The smc PENTAX DA 35mm F2.4 AL lens will come in October for $219.95.
