Onkyo releases two new high-end 9.2-channel network AV receivers, the TX-NR5008 and TX-NR3008, both with THX Ultra2 Plus certification. They both support network audio streaming, various multi-room set-ups, iPhone/iPod playback over USB, and fully immersive, 3D-compatible home theater.
The TX-NR5008 and TX-NR3008 both include 8 HDMI 1.4a inputs supporting Audio Return Channel and 3D video in “Side-By-Side (Half)” and “Top-and-Bottom” format. They have Ethernet port that enables network connection for internet radio streaming from services such as Pandora, Rhapsody, Napster, Slacker, Mediafly, Sirius Internet Radio, or streaming from home network supporting FLAC, MP3, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, WMA, WMA Lossless, AAC, and LPCM audio files.
Onkyo’s new network receivers support Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio codecs and features DSD Direct and Burr-Brown DACs to handle the heavy demands of multi-channel audio processing. The TX-NR5008 has front and rear USB ports while the TX-NR3008 includes front USB port for playback of audio content from USB storage devices or from iPhone/iPod. Both models sport separate transformers for audio and video processing, with the TX-NR5008 also adding a massive toroidal transformer and 22,000 uF capacitors, a feature more typical of separate component amplifiers.
The Onkyo TX-NR5008 is available for $2499 and the TX-NR3008 for $1899.
