Hitachi SimpleDrive 2TB get redesigned

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies introduces its newly designed SimpleDrive external hard drive with up to 2TB storage capacities. The new SimpleDrive gets a sleek anodized aluminum desktop enclosure and it sits vertically for a non-invasive footprint.

The new SimpleDriVE comes in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB capactities, which costs $99.99, $129.99 and $249.99, respectively. The drives include Hitachi’s Auto Backup software.

Hitachi also announced that all of its 3.5-inch retail drives are now available in 2TB capacities, including the 2TB SimpleTech Pro Drive by Hitachi with four interfaces – USB 2.0, FireWire 400, FireWire 800 and eSATA 3Gb/s, and the SimpleTech Duo Pro Drive by Hitachi with two drives in one supporting both RAID 0 and RAID 1 settings. All these 2TB external drives are based on Hitachi’s Deskstar 7K2000, the industry’s first 2TB 7,200RPM hard drive.
