Samsung announced at the Storage Visions 2009 Conference its SS805 100GB eco-friendly SSD (Solid State Drive) for enterprise market. Samsung SS805 is a 2.5-inch SSD based in Single-level-cell (SLC) technology. It has 100GB capacity and offers a IOPS (input/output per second) more than 10 times faster than the fastest 15K rpm SAS HDD available for transactional data workloads.
The SS805 reads data sequentially at 230 MB/s and writes sequentially at 180 MB/s, with a random read speed of 25K and a random write speed of 6K.
As a “Green” SSD, Samsung’s SS805 uses only 1.9 watts of power in active mode and 0.6 watts in idle mode, compare to 8 to 15 watts in active mode and 1 to 2 watts in idle mode consumed by typical 15K HDDs.
