Sony joins the phablet bandwagon introducing the Xperia Z Ultra, a larger-screen version of the Xperia Z with more powerful hardware specs. The 6.44-inch Full HD touchscreen display easily beats 720p HD display on other over-sized smartphones. The screen features TRILUMINOS Display for mobile, Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 and X-Reality for mobile to deliver rich natural color and detailed, sharp images.
The Z Ultra is just like a bigger version of the Xperia Z, featuring the same elegant OmniBalance design and tempered glass front and back. It is also durable with IP55 and IP58 waterproof and dustproof ratings. With a 6.5mm super slim body, the superphone is even slimmer than the original Z, though it is over 60g heavier at 212 grams.
This Ultra-sized Xperia is not just big but also powerful. It sports a Qualcomm SnapDragon 800 processor running 2.2GHz, which is the world’s fastest smartphone processor at the moment. There is 2GB of RAM. The 8 Megapixel camera uses Exmor RS for mobile sensor and supports HDR recording for both video and photos. Its 2 Megapixel camera is also capable of Full HD video recording. The handset supports LTE 4G mobile networks. Other features include WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA, NFC, ANT+, STAMINA mode and FM radio. Up to 16GB internal storage is provided and the microSD card supports up to 64GB cards.
Sony is going to launch the Xperai Z Ultra globally in Q3 2013. Like the Z, the Ultra will come in black, white and purple.
