Seagate announced that it is shipping its Laptop Ultrathin super slim hard drive to its OEM partners, including Dell, Asus and Lenovo. Measuring just 5mm thin and weighing 3.3oz, the new Ultrathin HDD is one of the thinnest and lightest hard drive which is ideal for use in slim notebooks and tablets. Seagate said the the super slim drive is capable of delivering performance equal to its 7mm laptop offerings.
The 2.5-inch Ultrathin laptop drive uses 6Gbps SATA III interface and operates at 5400RPM. Other than standard 320GB and 500GB models, there will be a SED self-encryption 500GB model as well. The drive starts at affordable price of $89, delivering best cost per GB and cost per millimeter in the industry for ultrathin applications.
