Sony has introduced the new Xperia ZR, a waterproof smartphone capable of video recording and image shooting underwater. This little brother of the flagship Xperia Z gets a smaller, lower resolution display, yet it keeps the 13 megapixel fast capture camera and is able to capture video and photos underwater.
Sony’s ZR is IP55 and IP58 compliant for dust-resistant and waterproof that it can be submerged in 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes. With a dedicated camera button and waterproof capability, you can shoot Full HD videos and take photos underwater. The 13 Mpix camera is powered by Sony’s own Exmor RS for mobile sensor with HDR for both photos and video, and features Superior Auto with Scene Recognition for taking best shots. The burst mode allows you to shoot an unlimited number of images at 10fps and 9 Megapixel resolution.
The durable Xperia ZR, like the Z, is powered by a 1.5Ghz Qualcomm SnapDragon S4 Pro processor and 2GB of RAM. The smaller 4.55-inch 1280x720p HD touchscreen display is powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine and utilizes OptiContrast panel for high quality viewing. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0, NC, WiFi, GPS/AGPS and FM radio with RDS. There are 8GB internal memory and a microSD expansion slot. The phone supports LTE 4G networks.
Sony will release the tough Xperia ZR in Q2 in white, black, pink and mint.
