Seagate introduces its new line of solid state drives, including its first consumer SSD. Three series will be launched, including the 600 SSD intended for laptop upgrade; the 600 Pro SSD low power solution for server storage; and the enterprise-grade 1200 SSD.
Seagate 600 SSD
The 2.5-inch 600 SSD is ideal for notebook hard drive upgrade. Available in 7mm and 5mm z-height super slim form factors, the drives can be installed in super thin notebooks. Based on MLC NAND flash, the SSDs provide over 500MB/s sustained read and 400MB/s sustained write speeds, and up to 80K/70/K random read/write IOPS performance. 120GB, 240GB and 480GB models are available.
Seagate 600 Pro SSD
The 600 Pro, on the other hand, is an entry-level enterprise SSD with low power consumption ideal for cloud storage and datacenter applications. While it is similar to the 600 SSD, the Pro version is available in only 7mm height form factor. You can expect up to 520MB/s read and 450MB/s write speeds, and the industry’s highest IOPS/watt to improve system performance while reducing power. The 600 Pro is available in more capacities, adding 400GB, 200GB and 100GB options.
Both 600 SSD and 600 Pro SSD use SATA III 6Gbps interface and come in 2.5-inch form factor.
