While most PC makers make their tablet/notebook hybrid with a rotating and swivel display, Taiwanese company Asus thinks it is too troublesome to rotate the screen. Thus the company introduces the TAICHI line of Ultrabook with back-to-back screens.
The company has officially released its Taichi 31, a unique Ultrabook with dual 13.3-inch Full HD 1080p displays for mobile flexibility. With two screens, you can use it as a tablet when it is closed, or as a notebook with a backlit keyboard with opened. The sleek Ultrabook is powered by Intel’s 3rd gen Core processor and runs Windows 8.
When the lid is closed, the Taichi 31 is a high-performance Windows tablet. The outer screen is touch-enabled with support for 10 point multitouch that allows users to utilize Windows 8’s touch capability. Other than use fingers, you may also use the optional pressure-sensitive stylus for taking handwritten notes, annotating documents and drawing sketches. The touchscreen is protected with scratch-resistant glass
Of course, you can also open the lid to reveal the backlit keyboard with ambient light control and a large multitouch touchpad, and use the machine as a full-featured notebook. The 13.3-inch display inside also features 1080p Full HD resolution and is based on IPS technology for colorful images and wide viewing angles.
In addition to notebook mode and tablet mode described above. The Taichi 31 can also be used in Mirror Mode that will show the same images on both screens, which it is perfect for showing a presentation or sharing a movie without worrying about where everyone will sit. There is also Dual-screen Mode that allows users to have different apps on each of the two screens.
Asus’ Taichi 31 is a powerful Ultrabook. It is powered by choice of Core i5-3317U or Core i7-3537U or Core i7-3517U processor, integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics and 4GB of RAM. It packs 128GB or 256GB SSD for storage and supports SDHC, SDXC and MMC memory cards. There is a 5 Megapixel rear camera with Full HD video recording and a front-facing 720p camera. You can find Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band WiFi 802.11b/g/n connectivity, and USB 3.0 ports, micro HDMI port. It also includes SonicMaster and Bang & Olufsen ICEpower for cinematic sound quality.
Asus will also ships the TAICHI SUIT cover that protects both screens and serves as a foldable stand for comfortable viewing and typing.
