G-Technology, now part of Western Digital, expands its premium storage range with the new G-DRIVE PRO with Thunderbolt external desktop hard drive. Taking advantage of the speed of Thunderbolt, the company says that the hard drive can deliver SSD-like performance.With powerful interface and high performance, the new drive is ideal for creative professionals to handle 2K and 4K digital cinema, 2K DLSR/ photography and other digital content creation workflows.
The G-DRIVE PRO with Thunderbolt is based on 7200RPM 3.5-inch hard drive. Utilizing Thunderbolt, the drive delivers sustained data transfer rates of up to 480MB/s, which is up to three times faster than standard 3.5-inch external hard drive. Its high performance allows it to easily support compressed 4K and multiple streams of 2K, HDV, DVCPro HD, XDCAM HD, ProRes 4444 and uncompressed SD workflows. The drive is optimized for Thunderbolt-enabled Mac computers and is Mac-formatted and Time Machine ready.
The Thunderbolt-equipped G-DRIVE PRO has two Thunderbolt ports for future external storage expansion and to daisy chain with other Thunderbolt-based devices. The 2TB model is priced at $699.95 and the 4TB model costs $849.95. G-Technology will ship the drive this summer.
