As USB flash drives and online cloud storage services are becoming mainstream, optical discs and drives seem to be outdated. Apple even removed the optical drive from its new iMacs and Macbooks. Asus tries to give optical drive a new life, introducing its new ultra-slim SDRW-08U5S-U, which is the world’s thinnest external DVD writer. Measuring just 13mm thin, the drive has a stylish design and comes in Mellow Metallic, Dusty Rose, and Bright Berry color options.
With a super thin form factor that is easy to carry, the SDRW-08U5S-U is an ideal companion for Ultrabooks. It also includes design elements from the company’s ZenBook, featuring a meticulously-treated metallic surfaces with a concentric-circle hairline texture. It’s built-in hidden stand allows users to place it vertically or horizontally.
The highly portable DVD burner comes with Disc Encryption II security for data protection with password controls and encryption. Of course, it can write DVD and CD discs. Asus did not mention availability and pricing.
