Shortly after introducing the FinePix S8300 and S8200 long-zoom ‘bridge’ digital cameras at the CES 2013, FujiFilm decided to expand the S Series with another new model, the FinePix S8400W. This new addition gets a lens with slightly longer zoom range and includes built-in WiFi connectivity. Same as the S8300 and S8200, the shooter sports a 16 Megapixel BSI CMOS image sensor with ISO sensitivity from 64 to 12,800.
While the S8200 and S8300 sports 40x and 42x zoom lens, the S8400W zooms a bit further featuring a 44x optical zoom Fujinon lens. The zoom range can even be extended to 88x with the firm’s Intelligent Digital Zoom super resolution technology. It also includes Optical Image Stabilization system for reducing camera shake and deliver blur-free images. FujiFilm’s long-zoom shooter also offers high-speed performance, featuring an autofocus speed of 0.3 seconds, start-up time of 1.0 second, a 0.5 second interval between shots and a continuous shooting speed of 10fps at full resolution. It also does 1cm Super Macro shooting and Full HD video recording with stereo sound.
In addition to standard AUTO mode, the FinePix also includes Scene Recognition Auto detect the scene automatically and select the best settings from 6 scene settings. It provides P/S/A/M manual exposure control and advanced in-camera filters, including Pop color, toy camera, miniature effect, partial color, cross screen and soft focus. You can capture high-speed movie at 480fps (320 x 120 pixels), 240fps (320 x 240 pixels), 120fps (640 x 480 pixels).
The S8400W, as mentioned above sports built-in WiFi connectivity. This allows users to connect the camera to their iPhone/iPad or Android smartphones or tablets, using the free FujiFilm Camera application, for wireless transfer of images and videos. You may also connect it to a PC with FujiFilm PC AutoSave software for easy photo backup. The long-zoom camera has a built-in Electronic viewfinder (EVF) and a 3-inch LCD display. It has an easy grip surfaces and a secondary zoom control on the side of the lens barrel. Four AA alkaline batteries can provide a a 300 shot battery life.
Coming in May, FujuFilm‘s S8400W is priced at $349.95.
