As you may know, Apple’s latest generation iMacs and Macbooks no longer have a built-in optical drive. In order to burn or read a disc, you have to get an external optical drive. Mac users in Japan are luckier as Pioneer has announced in the countries the world’s slimmest external slot-loading Blu-ray burner, the BDR-XU02JM. Coming in late-March, the drive has a magnesium alloy housing that is stylish enough to match the iMac and Macbook.
Not just capable of writing BD-R and BD-RE at up to 6X, the slim Blu-ray burner also supports BDXL standard for burning BD-R TL/QL at 4x, and BD-RE TL/QL at 2x. Of course, it also does DVD recording at up to 8x and CD-R/RW recording at 24x. To deliver high-quality playback of Audio CD, the drive features RealTime PureRead technology.
The BDR-XU02JM uses USB interface and has 4MB of buffer memory. It measure 133 mm x 12 mm x 133 mm and weighs 245g.
