Here comes another smartphone for adventurers who want to keep conncted as Sprint is adding to its lineup the first ‘Ultrar-Rugged’ 4G LTE smartphone featuring Direct Conect and Smart Sonic Receiver Audio Technology. Called Torque and made by Kyocera, the rugged handset features mid-range hardware specs and will be available on 8 March for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate.
Being marketed as ‘Ultra-rugged’, the 4G-capable phone meets Military Standard 810G to withstand dust, shock, solar radiation, extreme temperature and it is also IP67-rated for water and dust resistant that it can survive full immersion of up to one meter deep for up to 30 minutes. The rugged devices supports Sprint’s Direct Connect Push-To-Talk service. With Kyocera’s Smart Sonic Receiver technology, the phone not just transmits sounds as traditional sound waves, but also as vibrations carried by body tissue directly to the eardrum and inner ear, delivering super clear sound even in the noisiest environment.
The Kyocera Torque sports a 4-inch impact-resistant IPS touchscreen display, dual cameras (5 Megapixel main cam + 1.3 Megapixel front cam), Bluetooth, WiFi, and LTE 4G support. Its 2500mAh battery is expectedto offer up to 18.9 hours of talk time. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich software.
