Micron introduces the new P400m series enterprise SSD designed for datacenter servers, appliances and storage platforms. Micron says the new P400m is a high-endurance SATA caching and storage solution built to handle the volume and velocity of big data. It will come in standard 2.5-inch 7mm form factor using SATA III interface, and in 100GB, 200GB and 400GB capacities.
Designed to manage petabytes of digital information flowing in and out of data centers every day, the high-performance P400m SSD is built with custom 25nm MLC NAND flash that utilizes the company’s Extended Performance and Enhanced Reliability Technology (XPERT), “which closely integrates the storage media and controller through highly-optimized firmware algorithms and hardware enhancements.” As for speeds, you can expect up to 350MB/s read and 300MB/s write. Though the numbers are not really impressive, given there are SSDs with over 500MB/s speeds on the consumer market, enterprise SSDs are more about reliability and consistent performance.
Thanks to the XPERT technology, Micron’s new enterprise SSD provided increased data performance and reliability. The P400m provides high endurance with extended drive life and is capable of 10 drive fills per day for five year, making it ideal for write-intensive workloads. For enhanced data protection and integrity, the SSD features Redundant Array of Independent NAND (RAIN) Configuration, Adaptive Read Management/Optimized Read (ARM/OR), DataSAFE technology, and Physical Power-Loss Protection. The datacenter drive also consumes less power than hard drives, and has a low latency time.
According to Micron, the P400m will be affordable and cost-effective.
