Western Digital adds to its Black line of desktop hard drives the new 4TB capacity. The new 3.5-inch drive uses SATA III 6Gpbs interface and features 7200RPM spin speed and 64MB of cache memory. To maximize performance, the 4TB Black sports dual processors.
The high-capacity drive features a dual actuator technology for improved positional accuracy over the data tracks. The primary actuator offers coarse displacement using conventional electromagnetic actuator principles, while the secondary actuator fine tunes the head positioning to a higher degree of accuracy with piezoelectric motion. The 4TB Black also includes IntelliSeek for optimum seek speeds, StableTrac for reducing system-induced vibration and stabilizing platter, and the NoTouch ramp load technology that ensures less wear as the recording head will never touch the disk media.
The WD Black 4TB (model WD4001FAEX) hard drive is available for $339.
