Apple introduces the new Lightning connector to replace the 30-pin dock connector. Apple said that the smaller Lighning connector is smarter and more durable than the previous 30-pin connector. It is all-digital and features an adaptive interface that uses only the signals that each accessory requires. The connector is also reversible meaning there’s no wrong way to plug in the cable. The Lightning has been used on the newly announced iPhone 5, iPod touch 5th gen and iPod nano 7th gen.
For owners who have legacy 30-pin accessories, Apple has released the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter for you to use them with the iPhone 5. Yet, the adapter doesn’t support video and iPod out. It is priced at$29.00. Also released is the $19.00 Lightning to USB Cable if you need an extra cable for your new iPhone or iPod.
