U.S. Cellular and Samsung announced a new entry-level QWERTY smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Metrix 4G (model SCH-I405U). The Android-based smartphone features a slide-out QWERTY keyboard for quick and easy text input. It also gets a 4-inch touchscreen Super AMOLED with 800×480 resolution that is big enough for you to enjoy movies on the go.
The Galaxy Metrix 4G is powered by 1GHz processor and is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, instead of the 4.0 or 4.1, with TouchWiz user interface. The handset has a 5 Megapixel auto focus camera and a 1.3 Megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. It supports CDMA EVDO Rev.A and LTE mobile network as well as Bluetooth and WiFi.
The new 4G LTE QWERTY slider has 2GB of internal memory and supports microSD/SDHC up to 32GB. U.S. Cellular is now selling the phone for $179.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and $129.00 after $100 mail-in rebate in markets offering 4G LTE service.
