WD (Western Digital) expands the VelociRaptor series with the new 1TB model. Designed for high-performance PCs, Mac computers and professional workstations, the VelociRaptor operates at 10,000RPM with 64MB cache and use SATA III 6Gbps for optimized performance. It uses Advanced Format Technology to achieve capacities up to 1 TB.
The 1TB VelociRaptor features Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward technology to optimize operation and performance when the drives are used in vibration-prone, multi-drive chassis, and the NoTouch ramp load technology so the recording head will never touch the disk, ensuring significantly less wear to the recording head and media as well as better drive protection when in transit.
The WD VelociRaptor 2.5-inch drive comes in the IcePark enclosure and a 3.5-inch mounting frame with built-in heat sink. The 1TB VelociRaptor (model: WD1000DHTZ) is priced at $319.99, and there are also 500GB (WD5000HHTZ) model and 250GB (WD2500HHTZ) model priced at $209.99 and $159.99, respectively.
