Along with the Xperia P, the Xperia U, announced at the MWC 2012, is another new addition to Sony’s Xperia NXT series, joining the Xperia S. The Xperia U is powered by the same STE NOVATHOR U8500 dual-core 1GHz processor as the P and gets 512MB RAM and 8GB internal storage. It features a 3.5-inch 854×480 Reality Display with BRAVIA Engine and a 5 Megapixel auto focuscamera with 720p HD video recording, LED flash, 3D Sweep panorama; and a front-facing camera.
The Xperia U runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with future upgrade to Android 4.0 ICS. It suppors Bluetooth, GPS/AGPS, WiFi connectivity, and is DLNA certified for wireless media streaming capability. The phone comes with built-in FM radio. Like the P and S, the U also has the transparent band that encircles the base of the phone with integrated invisible antenna components. The band also lluminates when receiving calls, texts and notifications.
TheSony Xperia U comes in a choice of white or black, with pink and yellow exchangeable caps for the base of the smartphone in the box. It supports quad-band GSM/EDGE and tri-band HSPA networks
