This is not the first time we see Apricorn’s Aegis Padlock encrypted hard drives and the company has just released its latest Aegis Padlock DT USB 3.0 hardware encrypted desktop hard drive. Using USB 3.0 SuperSpeed, the new drive provides a faster transfer rate. In addition to military-grade AES-XTS 128-bit or 256-bit hardware encryption, the new DR model also uses an onboard alphanumeric keypad for secure access with a unique 6-16 digit PIN.
The Aegis Padlock DT has an solid aluminum enclosure and wear resistant keypad. With software free design, users do not need to install any software or driver to use the drive and it works on Windows, Mac and Linux. The encrypted drive is available in 1TB, 2TB and 3TB capacities, and with 128-bit AES or 256-bit AES hardware encryption.
The Aegis Padlock DT also features a Brute Force Defense Mechanism – “after denying access to incorrect PINs 5 times, the DT requires the drive to be disconnected and reconnected to the USB port. Once the maximum number of failed attempts has been reached the Aegis Padlock DT deletes the encryption key rendering all stored data useless and requiring a complete reset of the Aegis Padlock DT in order to redeploy the drive”.
