Hitachi announced its line of 1TB per platter hard drives, the Deskstar 7K1000.D, Deskstar 5K1000.B and the CinemaStar 7K1000.D, CinemaStar 5K1000.B, offering 1TB capacity on a single disk.
The Deskstar drives are designed for desktop computers, external storage devices and desktop RAID systems. The 7K1000.D uses Hitachi’s 7200RPM platform and 6Gb/second Serial ATA interface. It packs 32MB cache memory and features eighth-generation power management technology and power-saving HiVERT™ innovations, providing up to 15 percent idle power savings over the previous model. The 5K1000.B is a 5400RPM drive with CoolSpin technology to deliver a 23 percent idle power savings over the Deskstar 7K1000.D.
The CinemaStar line, on the other hand, are made for cost-effective storage-based TVs and DVRs. The CinemaStar 7K1000.D and 5K1000.B deliver a balance of performance, power, acoustics and capacities that is optimized for this market. Using SATA III 6Gps interface, the drives includes more than 10 features and technologies optimized for A/V streaming. Hitachi offers a variety of capacity and RPM choices for DVRs, set-top boxes and video surveillance systems. The 5K1000.B includes CoolSpin technology for ultra low power consumption.
Other than 1TB models, Hitachi will also release 250GB-750GB models.
