Samsung announced its new SE-208BW Smart Media Hub, which is a new product that combines an external ODD with wireless connectivity to provide wider end-user benefits. Other than CD/DVD playback and writing, the Hub can wirelessly stream and play CDs and DVDs on their smartphones, tablet or PC to listen to music or watch movies. It can also wirelessly connect to a smartphone or tablet PC to easily backup data such as pictures, video or contacts onto CDs or DVDs without ever turning on a desktop or notebook computer.
The Samsung SE-208BW includes wireless access point (AP) and repeater functionality and can be used as a repeater to amplify Wi-Fi signals and widen the connectivity range across the home. It supports Dynamic DNS and can connect with USB external drive or USB flash drive to become a personal Cloud server. For TVs with DLNA compatibility, the SE-208AB comes with AllShare allowing users to view drive content through the TV menu to play and record multimedia files onto CDs and DVDs.
As an optical drive, Samsung’s SE-208BW writes DVD+/-R at 8X, DVD-RAM at 5X, DVD+/-R DL at 6X, DVD+RW at 8X and DVD-RW at 6x. Samsung will release this WiFi-enabled multi-functional Smart Media Hub in early 2012.
