Verizon announced the next generation DROID smartphone, the new DROID 3 by Motorola featuring a side-slide full QWERTY keyboard. While its predecessor DROID/Milestone and DROID 2/Milestone 2 come with a 4-row keyboard, the new DROID 3 has a 5-row keyboard, adding a dedicated row for numbers. It is powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM and runs Android 2.3 OS.
The Motorola DROID 3 sports a 4-inch qHD 540×960 touchscreen, a 8 Megapixel camera with auto focus, LED flash and video recording, a front camera for video chat, 16GB onboard memory, GPS/A-GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, HDMI output and a microSD card slot. Like most modern smartphones, the new DROID is also equipped with Accelerometer, Ambient Light, Proximity sensors. As a global phone, the DROID 3 supports CDMA 800/900MHz, tri-band WCDMA 3G and quad-band GSM networks, allowing customers to enjoy wireless voice and data service in more than 200 countries, including more than 125 with 3G speeds.
The Motorola DROID 3 comes with a 1540mAh battery offering up to 550 minutes of talk time and 300 hours of standby. The enterprise-ready Android device comes pre-loaded with Citrix GoToMeeting for Android that gives users the ability to attend online meetings while on-the-go, and Citrix Receiver for Android, a universal software client that allows companies to deliver corporate apps, desktops and data to any corporate- or employee-owned device. There is also ESP smart dock technology for a tailored experience based on whether DROID 3 is docked in home, office or car settings.
The Motorola DROID 3 is available at Verizon Wireless for $199.99 with a new 2-year contract.
