Panasonic expands its LUMIX G Micro System line with the new DMC-G3 Micro Four Thirds camera, follow-up to the LUMIX G2, featuring 16 Megapixel Live MOS image sensor. The new camera uses Micro Four Thirds mount and is compatible with LUMIX G lenses as well as any interchangeable lens that complies with the Four Thirds System standard via an optional mount adapter.
The LUMIX G3 is equipped with Venus Engine FHD image processor with advanced signal processing capabilities in both photo and video recording. It supports 4 fps consecutive shooting in 16.0-megapixel full resolution with mechanical shutter, and high speed burst shooting at 20 fps with electronic shutter. The G3 features Contrast AF system and Light Speed AF system. It includes Advanced iA (Intelligent Auto) mode, offering MEGA O.I.S. (included in the lens), Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, and the Intelligent D-range Control, which offers even more natural looking by optimizing the exposure for each part of an image, preventing blocked shadows and blown highlights and helping ensure that gradation and details are reproduced beautifully including the blue color of the sky.
The LUMIX DMC-G3 records Full HD 1080p video in AVCHD format. It has a 3-inch touch control display and offers mini HDMI output. It comes in black, red, brown and white. The prices are $599.99 for body only and $699.99 for the kit with 14-42mm Lumix G VARIO f/3.5-5.6 Lens.
