Seamicro announced the “world’s most energy efficient 64-bit x86 server, the SM10000-64 with 256 of the latest 64-bit Intel Atom N570 dual-core processors. While its brother SM10000 has 512 Atom CPUs. the new 64-bit server packs 256 N570 processors (512 64-bit Cores) and 850GHz, into a 10 Rack unit (17.5 inches) system. According to Seamicro, the server is ptimized for 64-bit Internet data center environments, delivering more compute per unit power and more compute per unit space than any x86 system ever built.
The Seamicro SM10000-64 packs 1.024TB of DDR3 RAM and up to 64 SATA hard drive or solid state drives. It offers four gigabytes of addressable memory per socket, and delivers one gigabit of bandwidth per core. Of course, the 64-bit server works with 64-bit OS.
The Seamicro SM10000-64 64-bit Atom server will start at $148,000.
