Hitach Global Storage has announced two new hard drive families, the 3.5-inch CinemaStar 5K2000 series and the 2.5-inch CinemaStar C5K750 series, both optimized for nd fine-tuned for the audio/video (A/V) market, such as digital video recorder (DVR), IPTV set-top-box (STB), video surveillance and emerging hard drive-embedded TV markets.
The 3.5-inch CinemaStar 5K2000 is available in 1.5TB and and 2TB capacities with 667GB per platter. It features CoolSpin Technology and are nearly silent at 2.4 bels during operation and draw only 4.2W or less idle power. The 2.5-inch CinemaStar C5K750, on the other hand, comes in 50GB, 640GB and 500GB capacities. It supports the Advanced Format, which increases the physical sector size on hard drives from 512 bytes to 4096 (4K) bytes, help utilize the storage surface area more efficiently.
Hitachi’s new A/V-optimized hard drives both have SmoothStream Technology, Coolspin Technology, A/V streaming performance enhancements, HiVERT Technology for better power efficiency, and environmental optimization.
