Synology announced the new DiskStation DS1511+ full-featured NAS server with greater scalability, significant storage capacity for SMB users. The DS1511+ has rooms for up to five hard drives with a single drive reaching a 3TB capacity, offering a total of 15TB storage capacity. Users can even connect Synology DX510 expansion unit for more space. AES 256-bit encryption engine is included.
The Synology DS1511+ is powered by a 1.8Ghz dual core processor and 1GB of DDR2 memory (expandable to 3GB). It offers 165.91 MB/s writing and 197.8 MB/s reading speeds. The NAS includes Windows ADS and ACL support and iSCSI support for virtualization servers, such as VMware, Hyper-V, and Citrix. It has two Ethernet LAN ports with Failover and Link Aggregation Support.
As a full-featured NAS server, the DiskStation DS1511+ can be used as FTP server, web server, Surveillance Station, photo station, iTunes server, DLNA/UPnP Media Server, printer server, download station with BitTorrent support and audio server. The price starts from $870 for a drive-less DiskStation DS1511+.
