Western Digital (WD) introduces to its Caviar Green family the new 3TB and 2.5TB SATA hard drives, utilizing 750 GB-per-platter areal density and Advanced Format (AF) technology. The new drives come with WD GreenPower Technology, which reduces power consumption by enabling lower operating temperatures for increased reliability and decreases acoustical noise for quiet operation. They have 64MB cache memory.
The 2.5TB and 3TB Caviar Green hard drives are bundled with an Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI)-compliant Host Bus Adapter (HBA), which will enable the operating system to use a known driver with correct support for large capacity drives. THe price is $189 for Caviar Green 2.5TB (model WD25EZRSDTL) and $239 for 3TB model (WD30EZRSDTL).
