Hitachi-LG Data Storage officially unveils the HyDrive, the world’s first solid state drive (SSD) embedded optical disc drive (ODD). According to the company, the first generation of the HyDrive will have 32GB and 64GB SSD capacity and second generation, planned for next year, will have up to 256GB SSD and offer faster SSD performance moving from SATA3.0Gbps to the SATA6.0Gbps interface.

The HyDrive, as a SSD, offers 60MB/s write and 175MB/s read speeds. As a Blu-ray combo drive, it can read BD-ROM-R/RE (SL/DL) at 4.8x, DVD-ROM (SL /DL) at 8x, DVD+R/-R/RW at 8x, DVD+R/-R DL at 6x, CD-ROM/-R/RW at 24x, and write DVD+R/-R/RW at 8x, DVD+R/-R DL at 4x and CD-R/RW at 24x.

The HyDrive will be available in August 2010, installed on Moneual‘s Family PC 102 series. Asus will also include the first gen HyDrive on Eee Top range and second gen on N61DA notebook.
